BIG BLING Shining a light on this incredibl BIG BLING

Shining a light on this incredible work by Martin Puryear in recognition of #BlackHistoryMonth. His 40-foot tall masterpiece titled BIG BLING debuted at #MadisonSquarePark in 2016 and traveled Philadelphia and #MASSMoCa. It was his largest public art piece to date. The curved tower is made of chainlink fencing and plywood and is topped with a shackle gilded in 22-karat gold leaf.

Through a minimalist aesthetic, Puryear adopts symbols associated with histories of freedom and enslavement. His work is rooted in the craft techniques of different communities which serve to confront contemporary political and social issues by effectively merging #AfricanAmericanhistory with elegant craftsmanship. Brooke Kamin Rapaport stated, “For more than five decades, Puryear has created a body of work distinguished by a complex visual vocabulary and deeply-considered meaning.”

In 2019, Puryear represented the US at the 58th Venice Biennale. He was just the second African American artist to be awarded the role. He also represented the US in the Sao Paulo Biennale.

HOME RUN🧢 Focusing on this brilliant curati HOME RUN🧢

Focusing on this brilliant curation at the home of #LumpkinBoccuzzi for today's motivation with two of my favorite artists who are also contemporaries.🙌

A raw and authentic work by #HenryTaylor on the right lives in the same space as his artist friend, #RashidJohnson whose diamond-shaped mirrored tile work sits above the console. Nearby a portrait of #MikeTyson peeks into the room. 👀

The work by Taylor is an ode to familial spaces and intimate gatherings--a cool nod to the NYC loft it graces. Look closely + you'll see the artist's equine motif, a horse rearing on his hind legs in the background- perhaps a symbol of freedom and power, or the opposite--restraint and subjugation? 🐎

His works are either incredibly nuanced like the above painting, or straight forward critiques of systems of injustice such as incarceration and police violence. Without a doubt Taylor has become one of the most sought after artists by collectors and museums alike.👏

Johnson's work draws on his inspiration from his childhood in Chicago and investigates notions of race, identity and the African diaspora culture. Multi-faceted and multi-layered yet formally and historically grounded, his work is a home run. 🎯

The above mosaic is subtly thought-provoking and intentional. The fragmented whole is both cohesive and disruptive. He has literally gone beyond the canvas. Your gaze is inverted—you must look within. Johnson takes modern art to the next level on every level. 🥇

TUNNEL Leading British-Indian artist, An TUNNEL

Leading British-Indian artist, Anish Kapoor known for his unique and challenging installations created this red trumpet-like structure titled 'Dismemberment' in conjunction with design firm #Structurflex. Staggering in scale with steel ellipses weighing 47 tons, it is the artist's first permanent monumental open-air sculpture. It's part of a series of varying scales and they are all based on a simple technology, a stretched membrane. He aimed to test the limits of what it can do—be it a tunnel, bridge or modern object. It also merges architecture, technology, human biology and landscape.

OLD SCHOOL Feeling a little 'hoppy' today a OLD SCHOOL

Feeling a little 'hoppy' today after a weekend full of Chinese new year celebrations...today's inspo is this cozy interior inside a 19th c New Orleans historical home featuring a sweet baby blue canvas by #huntslonem.

Renowned for his distinct neo-expressionist style, Slonem's palette and sense of movement is heavily inspired by his personal experiences with nature, world travels and native dances of Hawaii. He is best known for his series of bunnies, butterflies and tropical birds, as well as his love of restoring national landmarks.

LUCKY🐇 Celebrating Lunar New Year with a very LUCKY🐇

Celebrating Lunar New Year with a very fitting work by Chinese artist #AiWeiwei (born 1958).

Circle of Animals/Zodiac Heads features 12 large bronze statues of the astrological signs. The work draws inspiration from the fountain clock at #OldSummerPalace with sculptures designed by Italian painter #GiuseppeCastiglione during the #Qingdynasty China. 🇨🇳

In the Chinese culture, the rabbit is known to be the luckiest out of all the twelve animals. It symbolizes mercy, elegance, and beauty. People who are born in the year of the rabbit are calm and peaceful.

May your year be lucky and peaceful.

WEST WITH THE NIGHT 🧭 Looking westward a WEST WITH THE NIGHT 🧭

Looking westward at this LA install we did way back when as we gear up for the epic @friezeofficial LA fair opening soon.

Was a seamless install where I placed a large monochromatic canvas by LA artist #DonnieMolls in this beautiful serene office in Century City.

Molls explores vastness of the Southwestern desert landscape of America. a perfect segue as hoards of New Yorkers make the annual trek cross country to satisfy their art addiction. Hope the warm weather is contagious. 🛣️
