Why do I need an art advisor?

“The art market is not an open affair. It thrives on back rooms, knowing the right people and the well-placed, targeted indiscretion.” - Thomas Hüetlin, Der Spiegel.

Building an art collection can be a daunting enterprise, replete with intimidating mega galleries, high-priced auctions and the sensory overload of the art fair circuit. It's little wonder people easily find themselves overwhelmed with the myriad of art choices and decisions. The art world may seem like a closed affair but it doesn't have to be!

Enter your trusted art advisor...From purchase to installation an experienced art advisor can bring a level experience, connoisseurship, art historical knowledge, object expertise and market savvy to help you make a confident and informed decision about your art.  Simply put, an art advisor can help reduce friction and manage risk during process of the buying and selling art.

What are your rates?

If acquiring or deaccessing art no fees are due up front as services would be compensated by commission after a successful transaction. All commissions are based on a sliding scale.

🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦 I’m thrilled to 🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦
I’m thrilled to announce the opening of RECLAMATION, featuring 1️⃣4️⃣ amazing Contemporary artists working across different mediums curated by yours truly.

🍷If you’re in the Hamptons please join us Friday for the Opening Reception 📆 July 1st, 5-8pm. 📍Markel Fine Arts, Bridgehampton 🌸

✅ Featured artists include: @evan.brownstein, @philippecheng, @yuliana_nft, @pipideer, @jeremynative, #CarolineGerry, @gaygay_vincent @chelseahrynickbrowne, @elenalyakir, #EricSlayton, #carolinesnow, @marz_in_scorpio, @kevinteare, @suzannah_wainhouse, and @blumarko #markwilliamWilson

:: The works on view offer a unique perspective around notions of loss, identity, place, hope. Through the lens of reclamation, certain revelations or truths about our society and culture emerge through the works of art, whether referring to freedom, ancestral homelands, the female body, Mother Nature or otherwise. The show was a result of thinking about the painful realities of the Ukrainian war, and the poignant idea of reclamation–or reclaiming something lost, stolen, or forgotten, and returning it to a former or better state. The theme is evocative of not just notions of loss and despair but offers a semblance of hope in the current context of nonsensical atrocities. As such, the works can be viewed as subtle acts of bravery by each artist.

🇺🇦A portion of the proceeds will benefit Direct Relief to provide medical aid to Ukraine.🇺🇦

For press, read innovateli.com/hamptons-art-exhibit-goes-to-war-brings-back-hope. Thank you #gregoryzeller @innovateLI !! 🙏

🥰Special thanks #kathrynmarkel (the OG in contemporary art out east) and @markelfinearts for inviting me back as guest curator for a second year in a row 🙏🙏🙏 AND to our sponsor,@KiddSquid, a Sag Harbor-based artisanal brewing company 🍻 🦑

On view until July 25th.
BTS⚒️ A behind the scenes peak of our installa BTS⚒️
A behind the scenes peak of our installation for this beautiful painting by NY-based artist,#RJMessineo. The work is made of 16 separate canvases with oil, wooden planks and rare earth magnets. 🌎

The installers used a variety of technical tools and while we encountered a couple obstacles with the space and the wall itself we are very happy with how it turned out.

The two story traditional residence designed by #ShopeRenoWharton offered ample room to feature plenty of art with double height ceilings and a grand living space. I especially loved how the exposed beams and trusses throughout perfectly framed the new piece together making a dramatic statement.

ART TODAY🎯🎯🎯 The Whitney Biennial’s 80t ART TODAY🎯🎯🎯
The Whitney Biennial’s 80th edition opened this week and is a fascinating survey of contemporary art in America today. As I toured the museum I found it refreshing to see such a well curated selection of art together under one roof as well as exhilarating to see how artists have responded to these most difficult of times. 🎯 (get a glimpse of my faves in the REEL 👆)

Despite a year delay and other obstacles no doubt, I thought the curators #adrienneedwards and #davidbreslin captured the cultural zeitgeist to present a poignant and pithy showcase of newcomers and veterans alike.🙌🙌🙌 I especially loved the fact they added their own symbol to succinctly sum up their vibe: )( , emphasizing the importance of openness and interlude as the driving concepts of their curation.

the title, ‘QUIET AS IT’S KEPT’, a phrase borrowed from Toni Morrison aptly captured the vibe of the show speaking to the unspoken dark realities of recent years. 😶‍🌫️🌪

Be sure not to miss this one! 💪

BEYOND THE CANVAS🕵️‍♀️ Learning from th BEYOND THE CANVAS🕵️‍♀️ Learning from the best when it comes to inspecting paintings with modern art conservation, one of the industry’s leading art restorers💪. Using an ultra violet light can reveal some unexpected findings🔎 and is usually recommended when doing a thorough condition analysis of a work. DYK? With the help of art restorers and UV light, it was recently discovered that Basquiat painted hidden characters and symbols in his paintings😯. You never know what you’ll find!

In this case, we simply spotted some benign stretch marks, minor paint loss (appropriate with age) and paint accretion possibly from the artist’s studio. BUT can you spot the figure in the background?

I was thrilled to witness this process and go deep with this work. It was well worth the time, expense and effort for my client. All’s well that ends well!
