It's June and it’s officially summer at long last. Did spring even happen? 🤷‍♀️

Hope your summer is as serene and peaceful as this gorgeous #jaumeplensa overlooking the sea.🌊

🔷🔵KELLY DAY🔵🔷 #TBT to one of my favor 🔷🔵KELLY DAY🔵🔷

#TBT to one of my favorite HLK placements, a wonderfully minimalist navy blue curved form by Ellsworth Kelly. Sometimes LESS really is more!

Kelly’s minimalist canvases are a masterclass in nuances of abstraction. His oeuvre is steeped in simplicity and conveys his impeccable craft and deep engagement with perception.👀

Yesterday, the artist would have turned 1️⃣0️⃣0️⃣, May 31st, which has been officially dubbed #ellsworthkellyday by #MayorEricAdams who announced the title along with the mayors of both Chicago and Austin. 🙌

The country is alight with shows honoring the late Minimalist Master from #glenstonemuseum, to #moma to the #SOM-designed #LeverHouse in Midtown Manhattan (slides 2-4).

May Kelly’s legacy continue to enrich the cultural landscape for 100s more🙏

###
Born in 1923, Kelly served in World War II, and took up a career as an artist producing works that were abstractions of his observations of the world.

“I was immediately intrigued with all the curves you see in New York. I began painting fragments of curves in which the form began to dominate in the background. Eventually I began to cut out the shape, and the wall became the ground. In 1966, an artist saw one of these works and told me it should be a sculpture, but I said, “No, it’s a painting.” My work has always been planar, my painting as well as sculpture. Somehow, three-dimensional work seems too complete and closed. But I want my works to be open-ended, almost a metaphor for anything.”“-EK

FOREVER KLEIN Today's inspo is the beautifu FOREVER KLEIN

Today's inspo is the beautiful studio of Yves Klein's apartment, preserved by Klein’s widow Rotraut Klein-Moquay, for over five decades, where the French artist lived, worked and died. It's incredibly modern for the time.

“You always had the feeling that Klein was involved with something bigger and greater than we were consciously dealing with,” Dwan recalls." - #VirginiaDwan

Fun Fact: A forerunner of performance art, Klein produced a series of "anthropometries", or performative body prints. Klein, garbed in a dinner jacket and white tie, often conducted the events like a chef d’orchestre and had it documented by a photographer.

COMTE CORAL🐠🪸 Gearing up for #ArtBaselinBas COMTE CORAL🐠🪸

Gearing up for #ArtBaselinBasel opening next week and receiving tons of previews from participating galleries. This striking outdoor sculpture of marine coral by New Zealand artist #ClaudiaComte stood out from the crowd.

I love the contrast of the white carrera marble against the verdant landscape. It is at once beautiful and unsettling as it’s a subtle reminder for me of the coral reef crisis around the world. ⚠️

Comte was born in 1983 in Morges, Switzerland and is currently working and living in Basel, Switzerland. Her work will be on view at Art Basel with #gladstonegallery

LONDON CALLING What do Mark Rothko and Ping LONDON CALLING

What do Mark Rothko and Ping Pong have in common?...nothing but this fabulous London townhouse owned by power art couple #PierreLagrange and #RoubiLRoubi

Slide 2: Overlooking the Ping-Pong table in the game area are works by Rosemarie Trockel, Frank Auerbach, Peter Linde Busk, and a small but powerful Mark Rothko. The placement of these works is the epitome of understated elegance.

And I'm enamored by the maximalism of the interior and curation where Fortuny damask wall coverings replace white walls to serve as a backdrop for masterworks by artists such as #phillipguston, #andresserrano, #markrothko #rosemarietrockel, #yvesklein, #henricartierbresson, #picasso, #RobertMulhern, #HurvinAnderson, #GlynPhilpot and many more.

Renowned designer #VeereGrenney and the passionate art collecting couple clearly approached the curation with a tasteful eye and a mind for art history and connoisseurship. The balance of aesthetics and considered placement is a sheer delight. BRAVO

THIS LAND Heading to Brooklyn Bridge to adm THIS LAND

Heading to Brooklyn Bridge to admire this awe-inspiring outdoor corten steel sculpture by indigenous artist, #NicholasGalanin.

‘In every language there is Land' ('En cada lengua hay una Tierra'), is the artist’s first public artwork in New York City and stands at 30-feet tall.

The work is a reference to the U.S.-Mexico border wall addressing the impact of migration as well as our relationships with land across generations, cultures, and communities.

Galanin is a member of the Sitka Tribe of Alaska (b.1979 Sitka; Lingít and Unangax̂). As an Indigenous person who practices subsistence in his homeland the free movement of life is essential. all life is deeply connected to land.

“Indigenous care for land and community is rooted in connection based on mutual sustainability. Rather than nationalism or capital, this perspective always embodies a deep respect for life beyond any single generation". -Nicholas Galanin

🧱Fun Fact! Galanin created this work with the same steel tubing used to construct the U.S.-Mexico border wall, also echoing its 30-foot height. The metal was cut and reassembled to spell out LAND in a format reminiscent of Robert Indiana’s 1966 sculpture, LOVE.

BEATLE-JUICE🪲 Art can be one of the best BEATLE-JUICE🪲

Art can be one of the best ways to show your love for that special someone in your life. ❤️

#tbt to a limited edition photograph of The Beatles by Australian-British photographer, #RobertWhitaker placed for a thoughtful client’s spouse. The signed work was a wonderful surprise birthday gift! 🙌🎂

I love how the piece graces this little nook leading into the lounge-bar room. 💙

“All four were very inventive and spontaneous. I asked them to jump up on the wall. They grabbed these umbrellas, and then John .... well, look at him in that photo. He's levitating.” - Robert Whitaker
