Perfectly imperfect denuded tree by Ugo Rondinone placed for a happy client.
The sculpture is a representation of a 2,000-year-old olive tree, like the ones found in the countryside outside Naples, the hometown of the artist’s parents. it was cast in aluminium from an ancient olive tree then coated in white enamel and ideally set within an urban context for full effect.

Ever the hopeless Italian romantic, Rondinone depicts natural landscapes as a metaphor for human psychology and as an escape into the past.  The tree is a recurring motif and is at once sublime and melancholic. it’s gnarly trunk and naked branches, sculpted by the forces of nature over the course of 2,000 years is a stark reminder of life, death and the passage of time. ⌛️
